Elphaba Thropp
Elphaba is not a particularly pleasant woman. She is very cynical, full of paranoia, and lives in constant fear that the Wizard's forces will have finally caught up to her. She is very antisocial, and does not do for small talk.
Elphaba has always held an extreme inclination for learning. She is, therefore, extremely intelligent.
She will dismiss most anyone unless they are an Animal or creature -- these are the only types of living beings that fascinate her -- the "half things." She studies them, she learns from them ... she hopes, one day, to allow them to live freely, without any restrictions. Animals are the only ones to her that do not live with a silly neediness to be loved and to please. They simply exist, and quite tolerably, at that.
Although she does not do well for joking much longer, as she lives quite an unhappy life in hiding, she does have a warped, prickly sense of humor, should you find it. Most of the time she deflects with sarcasm and epigrams. She has quite the strong tongue and has never lied in her life. Elphaba detestsdishonesty and has never resorted to it herself.
Younger Elphaba was quite sarcastic and just as dismissive -- however, she held less paranoia, and was more akin to maintaining relationships with people, hence her association and friendship with Galinda (now Glinda). Elphaba during her years at Shiz University held more of a "spunk," rather than a bitterness.
She is very bitter and guilt-ridden, especially toward her sister, Nessarose.
Despite this, Elphaba holds such a strong capacity for compassion and is extremely passionate about everything she does. She does not let go of things until she can make them right -- or, at least, until she thinks they are right, no matter how impossible the task. This makes her both idealistic and naive to a fault.
• Elphaba is allergic to water -- it burns her. She knows what a weakness this is, and therefore, NEVER outright reveals it to anyone. However, if one pays attention to her behavior, it is not difficult to see. She can drink diluted mixes, and washes her skin with oils, however, she cannot cry or touch pure, 100% water. This is because pure water is "holy" and Elphaba's soul is impure. Tears are also a sign of innocence and cleansing, and Elphaba's skin cannot bear the sensation of these, as they go against her very essence.
• Elphaba does not have time for romance and is not interested in that type of thing at all. She thinks of it as a lower pleasure. However, were she to fall in love, it would be by pure accident.
• Once Elphaba distrusts you once, she will never trust you again. She holds grudges that last forever.
• Elphaba highly dislikes children. She finds them needy and more selfish than adults. Although she has not yet experienced Dorothy in the current timeline, the farm girl only reinforces said loathing.
• She secretly likes the nickname Elphie, as it reminds her of a happier time. She will not, however, let you call her it unless you are Glinda or Nessarose.
• She is arguably the most powerful sorceress in all of Oz, being the most skillful interpreter of the Grimmerie. This power interests her, but she does not reveal that to anyone.
• Justice is her strongest motivation.
• Despite being the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba does not slaughter anyone without moral reasoning. However, if she feels killing is justified, she will not hesitate to do so.
• Like in the Wizard of Oz, Elphaba goes into hiding in a western castle (Kiamo Ko) with her flying monkeys, and does all of her work from there.
• She possesses a crystal ball in which she can observe other beings in Oz -- sometimes it even shows her ominous images of the future.
• Although very gifted in sorcery, healing spells are her weakness.
• She is very scarred from her father's low opinion of her, no matter what she may think of him now. The damage has long been done to her.
